Lanzarote master swimming had an outstanding performance in the European Master Swimming Championships, held in Lublin (Poland) in short course (25 meters), with a very positive balance of medals and European diplomas thanks to the performances of José Juan Aranda, Cinzia Lais and Laura García Cervantes.
José Juan Aranda “Joju”, swimmer from the Vulcania Master Swimming Club, was one of the great protagonists of the championship by becoming European champion in the 50 meter backstroke, revalidating the continental title achieved two years ago, and also winning the bronze medal in the 100 meter backstroke in the Master +50 category. To these results he added a fourth and a fifth position in free events, confirming his high competitive level. “I am very happy with the championship held. Winning European gold again in the 50 backstroke, after having been world champion this summer, confirms the work behind it,” he explained after the competition.
The Lanzarote performance was reinforced by the excellent results of Cinzia Lais, also from the CN Vulcania Master, who achieved three medals in the Master +65 category: silver in the 100 and 50 meter backstroke and bronze in the 50 meter freestyle, signing one of the most complete participations in the European Championship.
For her part, Laura García Cervantes, representing the CD Nonadamos, completed a notable participation in the Master +35 category, achieving three European diplomas and improving her personal record in three of the four events held. Laura finished fifth in the 100 meter medley, eighth in the 200 meter freestyle and seventh in the 200 meter backstroke, demonstrating clear progression throughout the season.
In addition to his own sporting achievements, José Juan Aranda plays a key role as coach of Cinzia Lais and Laura García, providing his experience both inside and outside the pool. “Cinzia and Laura’s results make the championship even more special,” he noted.
The European Masters Swimming Championships in Poland once again highlight the good moment that Lanzarote’s masters swimming is going through, with athletes capable of competing at the highest European level and with their eyes already set on the upcoming commitments of the 2026 season.
