The president of the Canary Islands has received athletes from the different clubs in the province of Las Palmas on Wednesday to congratulate them on their merits in the Master categories
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has received this Wednesday at the Headquarters of the Presidency of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the Master’s swimmers in this province who were proclaimed medalists in the World Championship held in Singapore last August. In total, the archipelago’s delegation rose with 19 medals, 11 of which belong to Las Palmas athletes.
On this achievement, Clavijo stressed that the Canary Islands government “is proud of those who, in addition to representing their clubs, bear the name of our islands throughout the world, demonstrating that Canarian swimming enjoys a great present in all its categories and a promising future.”
Likewise, the president of the Canarian Executive stressed that “these results highlight the enormous competitive level that exists in the Canary Islands, not only in absolute categories, but also in the master’s degrees, which are an example of constancy, discipline and passion for sport.”
The representatives of the archipelago completed the World Cup event with a very meritorious role. The swimmer Laura Yus, of the Swimming Club (C.N.) Vulcania, added three medals and established two records of Spain in the women’s master-25 category: the first one with the silver medal in the 50-meter free test, and the second with a bronze in the 50-meter back final. A third place in the 100 meters back was the icing on its role in Singapore.
Three other metals and two national plusmarks went to the Marcelo Tonelli palmraés in the male Master-50 category. The C.N. Metropole rose with gold in the 200 meters back, to which he added two silver medals with two records of Spain in the finals of 200 and 400 meters styles.
One of the great joys of the championships was given by Enrique Mata, of the Swim & Train Maspalomas, when the gold hangs in the 3,000 meters test in the Master-65 category. For his part, José Juan Aranda, of C.N. Vulcania, added two more metals for the Canarian delegation: a silver with Spain record in the 50 meters back and a bronze in the hectometer, consolidating as one of the best in the Master 50 Master category.
In addition, in the 800 meters away Free, Miguel Santana (Faynagua City of Telde) and Rosa Segarra (C.N. Vulcania), they climbed into the third step of the podium in the Master-40 Master-75 Master-75 female Master-75 categories, respectively, for a total of two gold medals, four silver and five bronze for the delegation of the province.
This Thursday, the president of the Canary Islands will receive in Tenerife the rest of the Canarian delegation awarded in the Singapore world championships.
